Some friends laugh at me today, but I constantly preach about the wealth of free entertainment, education and useful information available at public libraries for those willing to simply walk through the doors. Heck, you don't even have to go to a library building anymore to reap the benefits. Free online library services have become commonplace in both urban and rural regions.
Without Father's Day there would be no tacky ties; no sales on golf pants or fishing vests; and no mad rush to find the perfect cut of barbecue beef. For better or worse, all those things still exist and Dad still mostly loves them, but pops had to fight a lot harder for a celebration than his better half.

Sonora Dodd, the daughter of a widowed Civil War veteran, heard a sermon about Mother's Day and organized the first official Father's Day celebration in 1910. Local boys wore roses to church and Dodd distributed gifts to fathers around town. But it was 1972 before former President Richard Nixon finally signed Father's Day into law.

That makes this June 20 the 100th anniversary of Father's Day. Help your pappy celebrate and impress him with a trait both of you share, from a slightly bent nose to a bent for financial economy. Here are 12 freebies, deals and DIY ideas to make this Father's Day frugal and fun.

Many people tired of hunting for a job have decided it's easier to start their own business than find a job. The Small Business Administration counted 26.8 million small business in the U.S. in 2006 and that figure continues to rise.

Many of these businesses are started on a shoestring, often from home offices. Often, office furniture and gear doesn't figure into start-up costs, so why not furnish your office for free or nearly free?

Shopping Craigslist requires some skill, and time so Mr. Freestuff has created a step-by-step lesson to help furnish your new office.

1. Go to Craigslist.com. There is no charge to consumers to use any portion of the site. This includes placing ads, replying to ads or just searching and browsing.

2. Click on your state and select the city or region closest to you. Many smaller cities now have their own sites.

3. You don't need a user ID to read and reply to ads but will need an ID if you decide to place a "Wanted" ad.
