The colorful, diverse city that is Maryland’s largest city and economic hub is known for its beautiful Inner Harbor, quirky neighborhoods, unique museums and rich history. Founded in 1729, Baltimore originally was a major seafaring and trading community. Today the waterfront surrounded by shops, restaurants and attractions. The skyline is peppered with churches and monuments that earned it the nickname of “Monument City.” The city’s down-to-earth, small-town spirit and hospitality make visitors feel right at home.

1. Baltimore Museum of Art
This museum is free to everyone making it a great destination. Their is a wide array of different exhibits through the year, including special exhibits from partners.

2. Baltimore’s Sports Hero’s
Visit Johnny Unitas at M&T Bank Stadium or Babe Ruth at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

3. Basilica
Visit the National Shrine of the Assumption of Virgin Mary. This cathedral was the first metropolitan one in the United States.

4. Battle Creek Cypress Swamp Sanctuary
This is a 100 acre nature sanctuary that dates back to over 100,000 years ago. This area used to be a home to many pre-historic creatures like mammoths.

5. Washington Monument
Climb the 228 steps up to the top of the monument that pays tribute to George Washington. From here you will have a great view of the city, since you are up on Mount Vernon.

6. Cross Street Market
This is a historic market place that is in Federal Hill. This is a great place to take a walk and see different sites and shops.

7. Cylburn Arboretum
This is a nature preserve spanning over 200 acres. It houses a wide variety of different types of trees and many different trails throughout the woodlands.

8. Druid Hill Park
Visit the oldest landscaped public park in the United States which spans over 745 acres.

9. Edgar Allan Poe’s Grave
If you are a fan of Edgar Allan Poe come and visit his final resting spot. He is located in the Westminister Hall cemetery, next to Verginia Clemm.

10. Federal Hill Park
Come and see a historic lookout point from the Civil war and the War of 1812. The hill is located on the Southern ed of the Inner Harbor.

11. Fort McHenry
Visit this historic Fort and enjoy the view which looks down the Patapsco river.

12. Hampton National Historic Site
If you are interested in estates from the 1700′s this is a great place to visit. Here you can see a Georgian mansion and gardens.

13. Harborplace Amphitheater
Many performances taking place at this theater are free for anyone to come see. If you time it right you may be able to see singing, dancing, magic shows, bands, or anything else that decides to set up and perform.

14. Holocaust Memorial
This is an open air memorial that pays tribute to all those who lost their lives in Europe between 1933-1945 as a result of the Holocaust.

15. Inner Harbor Baltimore Waterfront Promenade
This is one of the United States oldest seaports where you can walk around and visit the beautiful location.

16. Kaytn Memorial
This is a memorial to the Polish Military that was executed by the Soviets in March of 1940.

17. Lexington Market
If you’ve always wondered what it used to be like to shop through an open market this is a great place to go. You will be able to see the butchers, fish mongers, and chefs hard at work preparing their items to sell.

18. Patapsco Valley State Park
When you visit this park you can do many different outdoor activities including hiking, fishing, camping, canoeing, or bike riding. If you are not the outdoors sports type you can bring a picnic and just enjoy the beautiful scenery.

19. Patterson Park
This park is 155 acres and will take you along walkways to see different pavilions, fountains, and two different lakes.

20. The Fudgery

21. Walters Art Museum
This museum boasts free admission all the time except for when you want to go to special exhibits. The museum has over 25,000 different pieces of art work, so their is sure to be something to appeal to everyone who visits.

22. Weber’s Cider Mill Farm
Here you can come and look around at the farmers market, bakery, and special activities depending on the season. For a small fee you can even pick your own apples in the fall.
